Getting ready to enter a communications degree program

Posted on May 6, 2015 at 3:28 PM Comments comments (0)
Ever since I was very young, I have wanted to be involved in media and entertainment. My productions began when I was in the fourth grade when
I acted in plays in local theater productions. Drama was my favorite class in
the middle school. Also, the first club I joined when I got to high school was drama.

When my high school journalism class went to the Newseum in Washington, D.C., I had no difficulty adjusting to the impromptu opportunity to cover a fake news story as an anchor at the Ron Burgundy Exhibit. My debut as a news anchor lasted all of one minute and was uploaded onto YouTube for the world to see.

As I look at colleges and consider college majors, I have reflected on the things that I have enjoyed the most in school and out of school. The thread of journalism and entertainment is clear and I am starting to look at communications programs.

What I am finding is the term communications can mean journalism, broadcasting, writing, public speaking, public relations and several other related areas. So my task as a high school junior is find the communication programs that offer the best training in broadcast television.

I'll be blogging about my academic journey as I move into my senior year. Stay tuned.
